Transferring data directly from one Apple device to another can be done seamlessly using several methods provided by Apple. Here’s how you can transfer your data, such as apps, settings, photos, and more, from one Apple device to another:

Using Quick Start (iOS 11 or later)

Quick Start allows you to transfer data wirelessly and securely between your old and new Apple devices, including iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches. Both devices must be running iOS 11 or later and need to be placed near each other.

Steps:

  1. Prepare Both Devices:

    • Ensure that both devices are charged and connected to Wi-Fi.

    • Turn on both devices and place them near each other.

  2. Set Up Your New Device:

    • Follow the initial setup prompts on your new device until you see the Quick Start screen.

  3. Use Your Current Apple ID:

    • Hold your current device over the new device, and a card will appear on the current device.

    • When prompted, enter your current device's passcode on the new device.

  4. Transfer Your Data:

    • Follow the instructions to set up Face ID or Touch ID on the new device.

    • Tap Transfer from [Device] to begin transferring your data, including your Apple ID and Wi-Fi settings.

  5. Finish Setting Up:

    • Stay near both devices and wait for the data transfer to complete. This may take a while, depending on the amount of data.

  6. Complete the Process:

    • Once the transfer is complete, finish setting up your new device by following the on-screen instructions.

Using iCloud

You can also use iCloud to transfer data wirelessly. This method is suitable if you have a recent iCloud backup of your old device.

Steps:

  1. Backup Your Old Device:

    • Make sure your old device is backed up to iCloud. Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup and tap Back Up Now.

  2. Set Up Your New Device:

    • Turn on your new device and follow the setup instructions until you reach the Apps & Data screen.

  3. Restore from iCloud Backup:

    • Choose Restore from iCloud Backup and sign in with your Apple ID.

    • Select the most relevant backup from the list. Make sure it includes the data you want to transfer.

  4. Complete Setup:

    • Stay connected to Wi-Fi and wait for the restore process to finish. This may take some time depending on the size of your backup and the speed of your internet connection.

  5. Finish Setup:

    • Once the restore is complete, your new device will restart. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

Using iTunes (macOS Catalina and earlier) or Finder (macOS Big Sur and later)

If you prefer a wired connection or if you don’t have access to a stable Wi-Fi network, you can use iTunes (on macOS Catalina and earlier) or Finder (on macOS Big Sur and later) to transfer data from your old device to your new one.

Steps:

  1. Connect Your Devices:

    • Use a Lightning to USB cable to connect your old device to your computer.

  2. Open iTunes or Finder:

    • Launch iTunes (Catalina and earlier) or Finder (Big Sur and later) on your computer.

  3. Select Your Device:

    • Click on your connected device in iTunes or Finder.

  4. Backup Your Old Device:

    • In iTunes, click Back Up Now under Manually Back Up and Restore.

    • In Finder, click Back Up Now under General.

  5. Restore Your New Device:

    • Disconnect your old device and connect your new device to your computer using the same cable.

    • In iTunes or Finder, select your new device.

  6. Restore from Backup:

    • In iTunes, click Restore Backup... and choose the backup you just made.

    • In Finder, click Restore Backup... and select the backup.

  7. Complete Setup:

    • Wait for the restore process to finish. Once completed, follow the on-screen instructions to set up your new device.
